Pau Torres (Villarreal)

Here’s the last option on the list, Pau Torres of Villarreal, who is the best possible Ramos replacement in my opinion. Maybe my opinion of Pau Torres being a better fit for the club than all the other options might be an unpopular one, but I do have certain reasons to believe that the 24-year-old centre-back is going to be an ideal fit for Real Madrid.

I see Eder Militao as a centre-back who would be the leader of Real Madrid’s backline in the future. He’s an aggressive defender who is primarily a destroyer, but he would need a perfect partner to accompany him. A partner who can be a ball-playing and left-sided centre-half, and bring a sense of calm to the backline and be the player to start the attack from the back after collecting the ball from Courtois. And Pau Torres is the player who can be that perfect partner.

Pau Torres is having a fantastic time, with him being an important part of the Villarreal team that won the UEFA Europa League in 2020/21, and now being pretty much a first-choice for Luis Enrique’s Spain. Unfortunately the Spanish team doesn’t have any Real Madrid players, something which will draw the attention of the club and make them focus more on signing Spanish stars like Pau. Torres is considered to be one of the best young centre-backs in Spain, and he would be a perfect long-term solution for Real Madrid. He’s error-prone at times, but he’s a high-quality defender, who can stabilise the backline of Real Madrid with ease.

He has a release clause of 65 million euros at Villarreal, but the Yellow Submarine are ready to lower the asking fee to 50 million. Real Madrid do see him as an interesting option, but AS report that the club can’t afford his high price tag after a season filled with losses. They also state that the club would look to sign him in 2022, but given the competition from Manchester United, it is to be seen if the Spaniard would be willing to wait for Real Madrid.

One thing’s for sure though, Torres can be a great replacement for Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid. He can’t be a perfect replacement, because it’s difficult to play at the level of such a legendary footballer who’s considered to be one of the greatest of all time. And might not be the leader Sergio Ramos was, but he can be a promising replacement who can achieve a lot at Real Madrid.
