Real Madrid: 4 defenders who have impressed as transfer targets at the Euros
2. Spain CB Aymeric Laporte
While discussing the top two, we step into serious business. We directly step into the players who have shown their capabilities to anchor a role as important as the No 4 at Real Madrid. The first among them is a recently linked player to Real Madrid, Aymeric Laporte.
Laporte who switched nationalities from French to Spanish recently was picked up by Luis Enrique. This European Championship has thus been monumental for him. And, he has very well lived up to that hype. Laporte has been an important pillar in defense for Spain and in my opinion, he could be a realistic option to replace Sergio Ramos.
He struggled to get his game time with Manchester City this last season and per El Confidencial, the new Spaniard would actually like to move to the Spanish Capital. The two club options, therefore, are Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid. My colleague, Sai has previously analyzed Laporte’s case for Real Madrid and I am inclined toward agreeing with most of his points.
The player is in his prime and Real Madrid desperately needs someone who can pilot the responsibility straight away. The club has had its fair share of experiments with youngsters. Even, Eder Militao took his time to get to where he is right now. But, with Laporte, the story could of one of instant success.
