Real Madrid: 4 defenders who have impressed as transfer targets at the Euros
1. Netherlands CB Matthijs De Ligt
On number 1, I have placed the dream signing that in my opinion is the only worthy player right now in Club Football to continue the legacy that No 4 holds in Real Madrid. To continue wearing a number that was previously worn by Fernando Hierro and Sergio Ramos is not an ordinary feat. And, Matthijs De Ligt could be that next player to live up to the expectations that fans carry from the No 4.
Juventus’s De Ligt has had a fabulous European Campaign with the Netherlands. They have won all 3 of their group stage games and won their group comprehensively. De Ligt was rested for the first game following an injury problem after their qualification. In the two games that he has played, he maintained a rating of 7.54, per WhoScored.
The only game in which the Dutch conceded was the one where he didn’t play. The Netherlands have thus maintained two clean sheets in the two games where De Light played. Personality-wise, he would be the best shot at replacing Sergio Ramos at Real Madrid. Even though he doesn’t wear the armband, he is a strong leader at the back and is someone who gives his hundred percent consistently in every match.
The only problem between realizing this dream signing is the club he currently plays for, Juventus. De Ligt hasn’t been linked to any club in recent times and that just goes to prove that he isn’t likely to move. He has been happy in Turin for quite some time now. But, he is the best possible Ramos replacement Real Madrid could ever find and his performances at the Euros have impressed me enough to put him atop this list.
