Real Madrid will carry out a summer rebuild after ending the 2020-21 season without winning a trophy. The season concluded with Zinedine Zidane stepping down from his position for the second time in his managerial career, followed by Sergio Ramos’ departure after spending 16 long years with the first team.

In terms of arrivals, the club will welcome home seven loan returning players along with David Alaba who was recently signed on a free transfer from Bayern Munich. The squad will join the preseason under new boss Carlo Ancelotti along with Antonio Pintus who will try to get them back in shape before the start of the season.

There has been minimal transfer activity so far at Madrid, however, as the summer progress, Florentino Perez will look to offload a handful of players to balance the financial books and raise funds to sign either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

Let’s have a complete look at the possible departures from Real this summer from each department- defenders, midfielders, and forwards.

DEFENDERS

Let’s start with the centre-backs. Sergio Ramos will no longer be a Real Madrid player from 30th June onwards. That will result in Carlo Ancelotti having David Alaba, Raphael Varane, Nacho Fernandez, and Jesus Vallejo as his centre-back options.

Raphael Varane has already been linked with an exit and has not shown much interest in renewing terms with Los Blancos. The Frenchman is of interest to clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Paris Saint-Germain, and after 10-years as a Madrid player, Varane could embark on a new journey.

If Varane does leave, Real Madrid could be forced into keeping hold Jesus Vallejo for the sake of squad depth. Los Blancos will make an attempt at sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde or Villarreal’s Pau Torres, however, Vallejo could be kept back as a backup. With that being said, Varane looks like the next player to follow Ramos to the exit door.

In terms of full-backs, Ancelotti has Ferland Mendy and Marcelo on the left-flank, Miguel Gutierrez is also an option. On the right flank, he’ll have Alvaro Odriozola and Dani Carvajal. The former is not part of Ancelotti’s plans for next season and has already been communicated the same. AC Milan are reportedly interested in Odriozola and the Spaniard could be sold this summer itself.
