The excitement at the European Championship is sky-high at the moment. Some courageous underdog stories, some stubborn fightbacks, every piece of the action is giving the spectators their money’s worth. A lot of goals have been scored too, 118 to be exact, at an average of 2.81 per match, according to UEFA’s official website.

There has thus been a lot of goal-scoring fun. As such, here is a list of five forwards who have impressed enough as potential transfer targets for Real Madrid.

5. France FW Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe hasn’t had the best of the tournaments as per his standards. He didn’t score and that’s a big let-off. However, does that mean he isn’t a good transfer target for Real Madrid? In my opinion, NO, one average tournament doesn’t mean that Mbappe isn’t one to look out for. In fact, on a close assessment, he did have a better tournament than many else.

Mbappe is known for his goal-scoring, and that would matter most to Real Madrid. But, this tournament was different for him. The job of a forward is primarily scoring goals but let’s not forget that playing as an attacker has so much more to it. It’s about keeping possession in the final third, exploiting spaces, and placing brilliant passes.

Mbappe’s overall game has been good. He made as many as 14 attempts at goal in his four outings and also has an assist to his name. I know that isn’t great by his standards and a lot of people including me expected better from him. But, let’s cut him some slack, France overall didn’t look at their best throughout the tournament.

Mbappe’s passing game has been top-class at the Euros. He has a total of 7 key passes and 10 dribbles completed in his four games. All of that alongside winning his team four free-kicks. Mbappe’s pace has been a sight to behold. He also had a great shot against Germany that ended up in the back of the net but was chalked off for offside. In the same match, he assisted current Real Madrid star Benzema for another chalked-off goal.

He missed a penalty that in the end may be stated as the reason why France was knocked out. But, there a lot that France didn’t do right in the whole course of their tournament. Mbappe’s overall game including his play-making developments in terms of through balls and long balls has impressed me enough. He nonetheless, has an overall rating of 6.9 at the European Championships, per WhoScored.
