4. Italy FW Domenico Berardi

To be honest, Ciro Immobile has been Italy’s best forward in my opinion. But, suggesting a 31-year-old as a transfer target may not be the best of the things to do. I could also have included Cristiano Ronaldo following the rumors of his linkup with Real Madrid for a possible reunion. But, I chose to be rather realistic and analyze Domenico Berardi’s case.

Italy overall is having a great tournament. Though they were tested to their limits by David Alaba’s Austria, two extra-time goals did the job for the Azzurri’s. Attacking-wise, their forwards have been in great service and have won their group stage games with convincing scorelines.

Domenico Berardi has been a standout for me, from a logical transfer target point of view. He has one assist to his name and has tried his luck 10 times on the goal in three matches. He was rested for the game against Wales to ensure a full-throttle for the knockouts.

Once again, he is one of those forwards whose all-around game has impressed me. Berardi has registered nine key passes in the tournament so far, per WhoScored. And, remember he has played a game less, which makes for 3 key passes per match. He also won his side three free-kicks in between all the action. To shine in a frontline that has the likes of Insigne and Immobile is a tall ask and the 26-year-old has proven effective.

Passing-wise he has been shining too. He has been seen attempting long balls and crosses throughout the tournament. He has five successfully completed long balls, one through ball and two crosses under his belt. With a few more games to go, Italy is now serious title contenders, given France’s elimination. Berardi will have more shots to fire and I’d love to see him score, he deserved to be on the scoresheet after all the hard work.
