2. CHELSEA

Chelsea are in the market for a centre-back as well. The Blues achieved the pinnacle of European football last season under Thomas Tuchel’s admirable mid-season revolution at the Stamford Bridge after taking over a disorganised team under Frank Lampard.

Tuchel transformed the side into an unbeatable defensive unit and it was pretty evident in the two semi-final ties against Real Madrid last season. With that being said, Chelsea are keen on further improving their defence and are also eyeing a move for Jules Kounde.

The Blues in my opinion could be considered as the second favourites to land the Frenchman due to the attractive sporting project in place. However, the only drawback in their offer to convince Kounde would be the intense competition in the defence.

Thomas Tuchel has Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, and Kurt Zouma as his first-team centre-backs. If Chelsea does sign Kounde, they’d first have to sell either Christensen or Zouma to make room for the 22-year-old. In terms of meeting Sevilla’s demands, Chelsea should not struggle given that they are one of the few clubs to have not been adversely affected by the pandemic.

Let’s have a look at the favourites in the race to sign Jules Kounde this summer transfer market.
