With the Euros wrapping up shortly and no Real Madrid players left in the tournament, the focus has fully turned to the transfer market and, thus, the one target whom Los Blancos are actually pursuing in the second pandemic summer, Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid did not make a single signing last summer, while they did sell players like Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Reguilon, Jorge De Frutos, and Oscar Rodriguez to generate funds. And there will likely be no further signings with a handful of additional sales this summer in order to scrounge up all the money necessary to sign Mbappe.

Given Jadon Sancho joined Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund for 90 million euros, there is optimism that Mbappe may only cost around 120-130 million euros in the current economy instead of the 150-180 million euros initially expected. That remains to be seen, but with Madrid the only option and just one year left on the PSG man’s contract, the optimism from Madridistas is not unwarranted.

And there appears to be yet another wrinkle to the story that lends more credibility to the argument that Real Madrid will acquire Kylian Mbappe in the 2021 summer transfer window.

The Real Madrid clause may not actually be an option in a Kylian Mbappe renewal with PSG

A possible idea of a one-year extension or an extension with a “Real Madrid out clause” has been proposed so that PSG can get a little more money out of selling Mbappe and not lose him this summer. But one of those ideas may not be feasible.

According to MARCA’s Pablo Polo, PSG is not willing to agree to a special clause in a renewed deal with Mbappe that includes an outlet to join Real Madrid for a fixed fee. That’s apparently because it would open the Parisians to a legal risk, as French football does not allow its clubs to include such clauses in their contracts. He cites the lack of a move back to Barcelona for Neymar as a recent example of a player not being able to engage in such an agreement.

All of this means that there is one less outlet for Mbappe to stay with PSG beyond 2021. PSG cannot risk losing Mbappe for free, which would be the case if they do not extend him this summer. And because he seems to only want Real Madrid (otherwise, why would he keep rejecting renewal offers?), it doesn’t seem like he would accept a renewal without an assurance that a move to Real would still be open.

Thus, if this closes the door on a specific Madrid release clause, then that puts even more pressure on PSG to sell him this summer so that they can get over 100 million euros out of the most valuable player in the world. For Madridistas, if all of this is true, this constitutes as yet another positive sign for the Royal White club.
