Real Madrid is looking to generate funds for Mbappe’s signing from every way possible

Real Madrid have not spent a single euro in the transfer market for three transfer windows now. The last signing on which money was spent was that of Reinier Jesus, a player who wasn’t signed for the first team. Real Madrid have prioritised sales over signings, and rather chose to trust the loanees as the reinforcements for the club.

It is mainly due to the losses suffered by the club during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the club trying to cover up for those losses with the funds. But another reason behind the club’s strategy is one player, who’s none other than Kylian Mbappe.

Kylian Mbappe has been a transfer priority for Real Madrid since the last four years, and the club has always seen him as the missing piece of the Real Madrid team whose arrival could make this team a winning machine again. He would obviously cost a lot at this time, and Real Madrid might have to create a club record to sign him.

But right now, he isn’t just a transfer target, he is an ‘obsession’ for the club. The club are finding different ways to generate funds for his sale, and are even willing to wait for his arrival, by not spending anything this summer and saving the money for his signing or Haaland’s signing in case ‘Project Mbappe’ fails. They’ve already sold many of the players, and according to AS, Real Madrid are plotting many more ways to save around €126 million, that can be used for the signing of Mbappe.

In such a case, when Varane’s departure could generate around €50 million, the club would gleefully accept it with both hands. It could lead to another Makelele-Beckham situation, but at the moment the club is ready to go to any extent to fulfil their obsession of signing Kylian Mbappe.

Given Alaba’s weaknesses as a centre-back and his ability to play better in other positions, it would be better if the club uses that money to sign a solid long-term defensive partner for Militao. But at the moment, the club thinks they can’t afford any centre-back, and would instead prefer to save them for a big-money signing.

With each day Kylian Mbappe’s signing looks more and more possible, but in case it doesn’t happen this summer, Real Madrid are willing to wait for another year. But that might put this season at stake, and Don Carlo would’ve to go into the season without any attacking reinforcements. So it’s difficult to say if Real Madrid’s idea of waiting for Mbappe and selling many players is worth it, but one thing’s for sure, Real Madrid would happily accept this money generated by Varane’s departure to use that for his signing.
