Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid are a match made in heaven that is yet to materialise. The 22-year-old has been linked since he was a young teenager at AS Monaco with Los Blancos and he’s grown into a popular figure amongst the Madrid faithful despite playing for another club.

Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in 2018 to Juventus, Real Madrid have lacked a cutting edge in their attack and all eyes at the Santiago Bernabeu have turned towards Kylian Mbappe as the ideal successor to the Portuguese international.

He’s inarguably one of the best players in the world at the moment barring two superhumans in the shape of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

He also has all the characteristics and abilities to be a successful player at Real Madrid and can etch his name into the history of football as one of the greatest. But can he do it at Paris Saint-Germain or would signing for Real Madrid provide him with the perfect platform?

A move to Real Madrid could bring Kylian Mbappe a step closer to winning the Ballon d’Or

Recently, former Real Madrid player Nicolas Anelka shared his thoughts over Kylian Mbappe potentially winning the Ballon d’Or. Anelka made quite a statement in his column with The Athletic where he stated

"“If you want the biggest accolades, you will have to move from PSG at some point.  “You will have to decide. If you want to win the Ballon d’Or, which is what you should be looking at to echo Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, you will have to compete with the best. “You can’t say you compete with the best all the time when you are at PSG. So, if you want to be one of the best, then do what you do in Paris but with Chelsea or United or Arsenal or City or Liverpool. Go to Spain to Madrid or Barcelona. Or maybe Italy”"

Well, Anelka is not wrong here. Despite being a former PSG player himself, Anelka has been quite candid with his opinion. The French league is not as competitive as the other leagues and PSG are the only actual dominant force in France for the past several years ( except this season). For Mbappe, it’s like a walk in the park in Ligue 1. He needs to step out of his comfort zone by proving himself in the tougher leagues such as the La Liga, Premier League or Serie A.

At the moment, it’s only Real Madrid who clear contenders in the race to sign Mbappe this summer. A move to the Santiago Bernabeu could potentially provide the 22-year-old with the perfect platform to build his legacy. The Bernabeu has been the home to several Ballon d’Or winners such as Alfredo Di Stefano, Raymond Kopa, Luis Figo, Ronaldo, Fabio Cannavaro and Crisitiano Ronaldo. Meanwhile, the club has also signed Ballon d’Or winners such as Kaka and Zinedine Zidane.

Apart from Real Madrid’s rich history with the prestigious individual award, Los Blancos can offer Mbappe a global platform that would increase his chances at winning the Ballon d’Or and becoming a legend of the game.

It would also end the debate of competing in a lesser competitive league as La Liga is undoubtedly one of the most technical leagues in the world. If Mbappe can perform at his best level at Real Madrid, then there are no doubts that he would win the Ballon d’Or.
