Expect the unexpected this summer transfer window because according to Thomas Roncero of AS, Lionel Messi’s could play a key role in deciding Kylian Mbappe’s potential move to Real Madrid this summer. But how could a rival player decide whether or not Madrid can sign their prime transfer target?

As we all know, Lionel Messi is currently a free agent after his contract with Barcelona officially expired on the 1st of July. Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Catalans are closing on the renewal and it’s only a matter of time before it’s all official.

According to AS, Paris Saint-Germain have already taken the first step in negotiating a deal with Lionel Messi. It’s all helter-skelter at the moment at PSG, now that Kylian Mbappe has conveyed his desire of wanting a Real Madrid move and has the upper hand in this current situation.

Les Parisiens are on the lookout for a replacement for Mbappe if he is to leave this summer. PSG paid a grand sum of 180 million euros to sign the 22-year-old and they certainly would not let him leave for free next summer without recouping a significant amount of that investment.

How does Lionel Messi’s impact Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid?

So where does Lionel Messi come into play? PSG have already made their first move towards signing Messi. If the Argentine forward accepts PSG’s offer then they’ll look into the possibility of offloading Mbappe. It’s financially impossible to have Neymar, Messi and Mbappe all in one team without breaching the league’s financial fair play regulations.

This forms a transfer domino, if Lionel Messi agrees to a contract with Paris Saint-Germain, PSG will look to offload Mbappe and Real Madrid are the only serious suitors to land the 22-year-old. However, Messi’s possible move to Parc des Princes looks unlikely especially after Romano reported it’s only a matter of time before his renewal is official.

But it could all change. Barcelona cannot yet enrol all their new signings due to a breach in La Liga wage cap FFP rules. So only time will tell what’s in store for Messi and whether or not he could actually play a key part in Real Madrid’s attempt of signing Kylian Mbappe this summer transfer window.
