LUKA JOVIC – REAL MADRID

A partnership that every Real Madrid fan wanted to see after Los Blancos spent a whopping 60 million euros to sign Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt. Unfortunately, the signing has not gone to plan as Zinedine Zidane seemed clueless on how to integrate Jovic into the squad and the Serbian himself made ample mistakes with his personal life in his debut season (COVID protocol breaches, injuring his foot during lockdown etc).

However, there’s a chance that Luka Jovic might just stay at Real Madrid this season. But can he play as with Benzema in a strike partnership? That’s a tough one, the two did not get along well against Real Betis last season but were effective against Real Valladolid.

The issue with Benzema and Jovic is that they both are similar players. There is the misconception that Jovic is only a fox in the box, a player who lurks behind the last defender and operates within a confined space.

But that is far from the truth, he is the type of player who wants to drop deep and collect the ball. He likes to have the ball on his feet more often than not and is quite an effective dribbler in tight spaces. The same style of play that Benzema shares.

Carlo Ancelotti would have to work something out between the two, either one of them would have to drop deep while the other one engages defenders. It worked well against Real Valladolid and it could certainly be an option to consider for next season.
