3 Real Madrid players who will struggle for minutes under Carlo Ancelotti
By Sudhir Salvi
MARCELO
Marcelo is now the longest-serving Real Madrid player, due to which he is the captain of the team. But there remains a big question over how often he will be the one leading the team out given that age has caught up to him and the Brazilian is no more as good as he was a few years ago. Neither defensively, nor offensively, his qualities are worth eclipsing Madrid’s options at the moment.
He does not have a commendable work rate in defence and was often caught out of position even before losing his place in the line-up. Sergio Ramos was experienced and covered for such an occurrence, which is why Marcelo was saved from further defensive embarrassment. His record in the league particularly last season was poor as Los Blancos lost most of their games with him in the eleven.
Going forward, Marcelo does not bring much to the platter either. He scored no goal last season and even struggled to assist due to Real Madrid facing a shortage of target men. It is very difficult for him to see him getting game time ahead of David Alaba and Ferland Mendy and although a legend like him does not deserve an end of this character, Marcelo faces being frozen out.
