La Liga is a warehouse of talent and that makes ranking players at a particular position a very challenging task. The department of wide players, too, has several worthy candidates. This season, however, was one of adapting to situations which is why players were seen rotating between positions. There were only a few who stayed put at the winger roles.

Antoine Griezmann, for instance, rotated between a creative midfield role, a winger, and even a Centre-Forward or a False 9 at times. He doesn’t make the cut for this list but is a great player who can shine in multiple positions on the pitch. This list thus attempts to recognize the best wider players in the league.

5. Athletic Club LW Alex Berenguer

To start the list off, on the fifth place we have a man who has been among the goals and goal contributions this past season, and that too at plenty. Athletic Club’s Alex Berenguer scored eight goals and assisted for four, taking his tally to a beefy 12 goal contribution in the league.

He was such a crucial player for his side that WhoScored ranked him the joint-best for Athletic Club alongside the central defender Yeray Alvarez who has been a crucial pillar for the team from Bilbao. He arguably fared better than his wide partner, Iker Muniain who undoubtedly is one of the most talented wingers in the league who couldn’t make the cut for the list this time.

Berenguer was seen making 11 appearances on his much preferred left-wing for Athletic Club. A key aspect of his play this season has been his versatility on both wings. He has also made a total of 16 appearances on the right.

This was a season of tremendous improvement in his attacking play. He did particularly well placing key passes and crosses at the average of one per match. To say the least, his move to Spain from Torino fared well in his first season and he would have a lot more time to climb higher up his list in the future.
