SET-PIECE PROWESS

Real Madrid are brilliant and ruthless from set-pieces, irrespective of whether they are corners, free kicks, or penalties- and that has shown in recent seasons to superb measure. Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are brilliant deliverers, whereas Casemiro, Militao, and Nacho amongst others leave no stone unturned when given the opportunities to attack corners or indirect free-kicks.

Gareth Bale’s return also helps Real Madrid host a good free-kick taker from short range, but that duty can also be performed by David Alaba, Karim Benzema, and Marco Asensio- all of whom are good at shooting from short to medium range. Kroos, who scored a free-kick in an El Clasico recently, could be an occasional taker too, thereby helping the team to capitalize.

Although Los Merengues don’t get too many penalties, they have Karim Benzema, whose record from the spot is impeccable. The Frenchman is set to succeed Ramos as the first-choice taker. Modric is not a bad choice to have for scoring from the spot either as he has been taking penalties for the Croatian national team for quite a few years now.

Kylian Mbappe, although having missed a decisive spot kick at the European Championship, has been a regular scorer of penalties in Ligue 1. As such, Madrid are fully stacked in this department.
