Real Madrid are gearing up for the 2021-22 season under new manager, Carlo Ancelotti. Los Blancos played their first friendly game of the season as they took on Fuenlabrada and clinched an easy 3-1 victory, courtesy of the goals from Gila, Mariano, and Martin Odegaard.

Despite last season’s trophyless campaign, the expectations at Real Madrid remain the same and Ancelotti will be tasked with the duty of delivering silverware. The Italian ended the Merengues’ 12 years UCL drought by delivering Europe’s elite trophy in his very first season.

The expectations are sky-high for Don Carlo who won it all in his first tenure at the Spanish capital apart from the La Liga title.

On that note, I’ve made a list of five key players that could help Ancelotti and Real Madrid in winning the 35 league title.

THIBAUT COURTOIS – GOALKEEPER

While the forwards and midfielders take all the glamour each season, Thibaut Courtois has been Real Madrid’s watchful protector between the sticks. After enduring a rough debut season, the former Chelsea goalkeeper turned his fortunes around in the 2019/20 season and since then has been arguably one of the world’s best goalkeepers, if not the best.

He was rock-solid in the 19/20 season, keeping 18 clean sheets in the league that ultimately helped in securing the La Liga title. Last season, despite all the numerous injuries, especially in the backline, Courtois managed to keep 17 clean sheets and pulled off several saves that kept Real Madrid in the race for the league title.

The Belgian international has been on the top of his game for the past two seasons and will look to further build on his performances. Carlo Ancelotti will bank on Courtois to remain sharp and attentive in goal to help Los Blancos win the league next season.
