The rollercoaster ride of Euro 2020 comes to a close. Italy takes away the trophy and bounces back from final defeats in 2000 and 2012.
The tournament was nothing short of spectacular. The campaign offered a lot of breathtaking performances. Superb goals to brilliant gameplays to crazy mistakes, the Euro 2020 offered it all.
We saw some underdog stories like that of Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Denmark; along with some disappointing ones, like that of France, and the Netherlands.
Many players made a name for themselves with their performances and have seen their stock rise.
Here we look at possible Real Madrid transfer targets from every side that reached knockout rounds of Euro 2020.
NETHERLANDS
The Netherlands faced an underwhelming exit against the Czech Republic in the Round Of 16. Their right-back Denzel Dumfries, however, had a breakout tournament. The PSV captain was a constant threat in the attack and played almost as a right-winger. He even scored 2 goals in the tournament and won the man of the match once, against Austria.
Honorable mention– Ryan Gravenberch
WALES
Daniel James was one of the very few bright spots in a below-average Wales side. Evidently, he was the best performer for Wales in the campaign with an average rating of 6.88. The Manchester United winger had an average of one shot on goal, and a passing accuracy of 82.4%, with his best performance coming in the group stage match against Turkey.
AUSTRIA
This was a historic tournament for Austria as they reached the knockout stage for the first time in history. They faced heartbreak in the round of 16 against eventual champions Italy. One of the remarkable players from the side was Stefan Lainer. The Borussia Mönchengladbach right-back scored a goal and was the man of the match in the first group stage game against North Macedonia. Overall, he was the best performer for Austria with the highest rating, per WhoScored.
PORTUGAL
Ronaldo-led Portugal entered into the tournament as one of the favorites. But Fernando Santos couldn’t properly utilize the plethora of talents at his disposal, as the former-defending champions finished third in their group, and got eliminated against Belgium in RO16. Portugal played toe-to-toe against France and Belgium, majorly because Renato Sanches was introduced into the midfield. Sanches’ dynamism and passing ability helped in keeping possession, and he was especially good against France, ending up with 1 key pass, and 93.2% passing accuracy.
