SWEDEN

Sweden was having a dream run in the competition as they finished top of their group. But they were surprisingly left empty-handed after a very late winner from Ukraine in the RO16. The winner came in the 121st minute for Ukraine, leaving Sweden heartbroken.

Alexander Isak, widely tipped as the next Zlatan, didn’t disappoint as he was a lively spark in the attacking third. He provided 2 assists and got the man of the match against Slovakia. A lot of clubs are after this talent and he is surely someone to keep an eye on.

CROATIA

After an underwhelming start to the tournament with draws against England and the Czech Republic, Croatia won against Scotland to book a spot in the next round. They were 3-1 down against Spain but did a very late comeback to draw 3-3. The hero of the comeback was Mislav Oršić. The Dinamo Zagreb winger scored and then assisted for a brilliant turnaround. However, Spain did go on the win the game in extra time.

FRANCE

Going into the tournament, France was considered among the top 3 favorites by many. But a humiliating exit at the hands of Switzerland in the RO16 ended their campaign prematurely. Defensive mistakes let slip a two-goal advantage to take the game into penalties, in which they lost, giving us the biggest upset of EURO 2020.

In spite of this, some players were spot on, helping them to the top of the “group of death”. Paul Pogba was one of the best French players overall, he scored and assisted one goal each. He won MOTM awards against both Germany and Switzerland, with match ratings of 7.8 and 9 respectively.

GERMANY

In Joachim Low’s last tournament as coach, Germany got eliminated in the RO16 against England. This was also Toni Kroos’ last international appearance. Robin Gosens was one of the bright spots in the Die Mannschaft, as they finished second in the “group of death”. The Atalanta left-back got a goal and an assist against Portugal and got a match rating of 8.38.
