So far Real Madrid have only made one signing – David Alaba from Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, their arch-rivals Barcelona are gearing up for the new season after signing Eric Garcia, Emerson Royal, Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero.

The 2020-21 La Liga champions Atletico Madrid have also been active in the transfer market after officially announcing the signing of Rodrigo De Paul and are now expected to make a few more recruitments before the start of the season.

On paper, Los Blancos have quite a solid squad under Carlo Ancelotti. But in reality, the defence lacks depth if Raphael Varane leaves, the right-back position is a serious cause for concern, the midfield is ageing and the attack is overly reliant on Karim Benzema. In other words, Real Madrid needs signings and here are five world-class players who are available on the transfer market this window.

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI – BAYERN MUNICH

Roberto Lewandowski had yet another phenomenal individual campaign with Bayern Munich, scoring 48 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for the Bavarian giants. However, recently the 32-year-old has been linked with Real Madrid by various outlets and Sudhir Salvi has made a strong case in his article about this rumor.

While Lewandowski continues to dream of fulfiling his fantasy of playing for Real Madrid, Los Blancos will certainly not look into signing the 32-year-old. The Merengues generally do not sign older players irrespective of their performance levels, even if it is someone like Lewandowksi.

However, AS reports that Florentino Perez is eyeing the Polish striker as a replacement to Kylian Mbappe. The former Borussia Dortmund ace is on contract with Bayern until 2023 but has shown little to no interest in renewing terms. This could eventually lead to Bayern Munich forcefully selling Lewandowski this summer for a hefty sum rather than a reduced transfer next season when he enters the final year of his contract.
