The UEFA Euro 2020 hasn’t been that favourable for us, the Madridistas, as no Real Madrid player could get his hands on the much-coveted trophy of the biggest continental tournament. But it has been a superb campaign and was highly enjoyable for football fans, and the return of fans into stadiums made the games much better.

Real Madrid couldn’t see much success in the Euros, but the tournament did help us in a certain way. It helped us identify some highly talented players, who were at their best during the tournament and emerged as rising stars after its end. Earlier they might have been identified by the fans of their respective clubs and leagues but after Euro 2020, every football fan will easily identify these gems.

These players will now be in high demand, and many clubs will see them as potential transfer targets. They will definitely be on the radar of some clubs, and even Real Madrid might be keeping an eye on these players. Let us have a look at five such players who were brilliant during the Euro 2020, and could be potential transfer targets for the club.

Mikkel Damsgaard (Denmark and Sampdoria)

Denmark was very unfortunate to lose against England after reaching the semifinal of the Euros. After receiving a huge blow in the first group game against Finland, they did well to come back into the tournament and put a valiant display against every team that came in their way. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get past England, but they did win the hearts of fans. And one player stole the attraction with his brilliant performances throughout the tournament and a screamer of a free-kick against England. He is Mikkel Damsgaard, one of the hottest prospects at the moment.

Damsgaard registered two goals and one assist to his name in the Euros and was superb during the tournament. His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, and a lot of clubs are interested in the Danish midfielder at the moment. Even Real Madrid are interested in buying Damsgaard, according to the Italian source Tuttosport.

I can assure you that when you see him dribbling past opponents, the first word that will come to your mind is ‘flair’. He has the ability to break through pressure with the ball at his feet, and he can also produce goods in the final third. He can score goals from range using a fantastic technique, and can also create well from the wide or central positions.

He is predominantly an attacking midfielder, but he can also play as a left-winger or as a wide midfielder on both wings. He can also make a great central midfielder, and such versatility makes him highly valuable. He joined Sampdoria for just 8 million in 2020, but now his stocks have risen.

According to Transfermarkt, he is currently worth 13 million euros, but given his recent exploits, Sampdoria are demanding more than 40 million euros for him. It is to be seen if Real Madrid would spend so much on him in this inflated transfer market, but if they get their hands on the 21-year-old, they will have their long-term future sorted.
