Real Madrid and Barcelona are arguably the fiercest rivals in European football and is a rivalry that dates back almost a century ago. Since then, there have been a few players that have played for both sides, notably- Luis Figo, Ronaldo Nazario and Luis Enrique. However, in recent times, there’s been no such transfer of players amongst the two rivals.

According to Defensa Central, Barcelona’s promising youngster Ilaix Moriba is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar for the summer as Los Blancos closely monitor his contract situation at the Camp Nou.

The 18-year-old’s father was recently asked about his opinion on his son being linked with a move to the Spanish capital. Mamady Moriba snubbed the question and remained silent which has now intensified the transfer rumour across Spain.

Should Real Madrid actually consider signing Ilaix Moriba?

Ilaix Moriba is undoubtedly a promising talent. The Spaniard received his senior team call up last season under Ronald Koeman and made 18 appearances for the Catalans in La Liga. He managed to score one goal and provided three assists in his debut season with Barca and was impressive each time he played.

The goal Ilaix Moriba scored against Osasuna last season was a testament to his quality. He received a pass from Messi on his preferred foot (right) and then faked a shot to beat a defender and roll the ball to his weaker foot (left) before dispatching curling effort from outside the box.

Moriba is a solid box to box midfielder with a great passing range and vision, eye for goal and is a physical beast in the engine room. His skill and finesse on the ball make him a very Paul Pogba-Esque player.

All in all, the 18-year-old is a phenomenal talent who is destined to develop into a world-class midfielder. Real Madrid have a golden opportunity at signing the Spaniard this summer for free as he is yet to sign a new contract with Barcelona.
