Real Madrid know they have some major tasks on their hands in the summer transfer window. To most Madridistas, Kylian Mbappe is alone atop that list, but that same number of fans, in some way or another, acknowledges the additional importance of clearing wage space in order to make such a move a reality in 2021.

Yet flying under the radar is an important future decision regarding one of Real’s most promising prospects, Takefusa Kubo. After a solid 2019-2020 season in Mallorca, albeit with limited minutes, Kubo took a step back by being a bit player for Villarreal and then an underwhelming cog in the directionless wheel that was Getafe.

Kubo’s quality remains high, and his potential is very much unquestioned – seemingly within Valdebebas as well. And therefore, finding the best possible loan spot for Kubo in this third season on loan is a must. Real Madrid cannot tarry once more with such a talent.

When Martin Odegaard returned to Real Madrid instead of obtaining a second loan to Real Sociedad, Kubo was quickly floated as a possible replacement before La Real eventually brought legendary Spanish figure David Silva back to LaLiga. Kubo had interest from other notable clubs, but Los Blancos ultimately chose Unai Emery’s then-compelling pitch.

Real Sociedad are still keen on acquiring Takefusa Kubo from Real Madrid

Now, according to a report from Cadena SER’s Roberto Ramajo, Real Sociedad is still keeping a close eye on Takefusa Kubo and even recently asked Real Madrid once more about the Japanese international. Their sporting director is said to be a fan of Kubo’s and would reportedly try to pursue the attacking midfielder once more after losing out to the Yellow Submarine last summer.

On paper, the situation is ideal for the parties involved. Kubo needs a loan within LaLiga to understand how to break down these defenses tactically and fit the style of this league on and off the ball. As Emery and Jose Bordalas showed us last season, there is still a learning curve with Kubo despite his dribbling talents and tantalizing playmaking upside.

Odegaard became a star at La Real, and maybe the situation would bode well for Kubo, too. The pieces around him would be a dream. Portu has pace and experience, Alexander Isak is not far off from being a world-class striker, Mikel Oyarzabal is a special talent indeed, and Mikel Merino is a beating heart in midfield who can take pressure off the young playmaker.

Next. Transfer gambles worth it for Real Madrid. dark

Real Madrid need to provide Kubo with the best attacking pieces so that he can learn to orchestrate, like he may one day at the venerable White House of Madrid. La Real is a loan deal that could easily happen, so let’s keep an eye on the logistics and how this latest transfer story may develop.
