Real Madrid: Chelsea make late push for Raphael Varane
Real Madrid’s defense in a mess right now. Raphael Varane’s future is still up in the air, and there’s debate about whether Real Madrid should sign a replacement if Varane chooses to leave. They definitely should sign someone, but it does not seem likely, given the club’s finances at the moment.
Anyway, it seems like Manchester United is not the only club that is interested in Raphael Varane’s services. Another team from the same league has emerged as potential suitors for the French centre-back. According to MARCA, Chelsea are also very interested and serious about signing Varane this season, and they are reportedly trying to hijack Manchester United’s deal for Varane.
As of now, Premier League is the option that looks like the most likely for Raphael Varane, and it would certainly be an interesting move. He has been in Spain for a decade, and has faced the absolute best of the best during his time there. He has won countless titles, and now he thinks it’s the perfect time to change things up a bit.
A move to the Premier League is a new challenge for everyone. The pace of the game is different, the style of play is more physical, and that’s probably why Varane relishes it.
But as it stands there are two real candidates: Manchester United and Chelsea. Out of them, which team requires Varane more?
Manchester United need the Real Madrid man in order to set sights on bigger aspirations
I think there are two ways to look at it. Manchester United need Varane a lot more than Chelsea, but the club from North London will see the most improvement if they are successful in purchasing Varane from Real Madrid.
At the moment, the starting centre-backs for Manchester United are Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire. While both of them are good centre-backs, Manchester United are only looking at Varane because they know that Maguire would form a great partnership with him.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are already great defensively. Under Tuchel, They’ve taken a leap as a team defensively, and as we saw, the Blues are a force to be reckoned with. Adding Varane to that team makes them so much better, and gives them a chance to have a new leader at the back when it is Thiago Silva’s time to retire.
Plus, there aren’t many weaknesses in this Chelsea side. But, even if Manchester United end up signing Varane, they would still need a good defensive midfielder to truly be contenders on all fronts.
Both of these teams play in the Champions League next season, and Real Madrid can face either of them in the latter stages of the competition. Giving up a strong asset such as Varane is a blow in itself, but giving him away to potential European rivals is something that every fan would be worried about, but I don’t think the club has a choice.
The ball is in Varane’s court. Real Madrid can do nothing but wait for his decision.
