Midfield

Toni Kroos(88 OVR->89 OVR)

The man’s brilliance speaks for itself. He had a sensational season with 12 assists to his name, and he should be definitely expecting an improvement in his rating. He was the best CM in FIFA 21, and he should be continuing at the top in FIFA 22 as well. His passing and long passing ratings of 91 and 93 might already be the best in the game, but those numbers don’t do justice to this man’s skill-set.

Luka Modric(87 OVR->87 OVR)

The Croatian genius saw his rating drop from 89 to 87 in FIFA 21, despite having a great 19/20 season. That explains how FIFA Ratings work for a 35-year-old player. If he had a similar season, his rating could’ve further declined, but Luka Modric didn’t have a great season, he had an extraordinary season. If he was three or four years younger, his rating could’ve increased to 89, but considering his age, I can see his rating remaining the same in the best case.

If possible, the makers should introduce an ‘outside of the boot passing/shooting’ attribute. This man will definitely top that.

Casemiro(89 OVR->89 OVR)

After Casemiro’s incredible 2019/20 season, EA Sports couldn’t have denied him an improvement, and subsequently, he became the highest-rated CDM on FIFA 21 with a rating of 89. He had a brilliant 2020/21 season as well, but maybe it wasn’t enough to open the door for further improvement. So we can expect to see no changes in his rating, but he might be accompanied by Joshua Kimmich on the top.

Fede Valverde(83 OVR->85 OVR)

Fede Valverde had a season disturbed by injuries, but he had shown enough in that limited time and started with a goal in the Clasico to make the headlines. Considering his age, quality and growth, he should be seeing a rise from 83 to 85, or 84 in the worst case. His sprint speed on FIFA 21 was 89, but it should be definitely better, considering the way he makes some lung-bursting runs on the field.

Martin Odegaard(83 OVR->84 OVR)

The Norwegian had a disappointing first half of the season at Real Madrid. But he got playing time at Arsenal in the second half of the season, where he got enough opportunities to showcase his class, which might be enough to guarantee a minor improvement.

Isco(84 OVR->82 OVR)

Isco was rated 89 on FIFA 19, but all it took him was two editions to plummet to 84. And considering his disastrous 2020/21 season, there will definitely be a reduction of two units, if not more.

Dani Ceballos(77 OVR->78 OVR)

Dani Ceballos had an average season at Arsenal, with slight injury issues and consistency worries. But for his quality, 77 might be too low a rating, and though it wasn’t his best season, we should be seeing a slight improvement for the sporadic flashes of brilliance.

Overall judgement:

Midfield was Real Madrid’s best department in FIFA 21, and it should remain so in FIFA 22 as well. Slight improvements can be possible, along with one major downfall in Isco’s case, so there might not be any change in the overall ratings.
