Attack

Eden Hazard(88 OVR->86 OVR)

The Belgian star was on the cover of FIFA 20, but bad luck played such a cruel role in his career that his rating slumped from 91 to 88 in one season. This time the same can happen more or less, given his terrible 2020/21 season, with a drop to 86 or even worse looking likely.

Karim Benzema(89OVR->90 OVR)

For years, this man remained an underrated player in FIFA and in real life. Finally, he’s getting the recognition he deserves and it is time for EA Sports to honour this legend by giving him an overall rating of 90 for the first time in his career.

Gareth Bale(83 OVR->84 OVR)

Gareth Bale’s FIFA journey has been similar to Marcelo, Isco and Eden Hazard, with his rating taking a nosedive from 88 in FIFA 19 to 83 in FIFA 21. Fitness and form issues played a huge role in the Welshman’s downfall, but a 16-goal season in 2020/21 might be enough for a minor increment.

Marco Asensio(82 OVR->82 OVR)

Asensio’s rating fell from 83 to 82 in FIFA 21 due to his ACL injury which kept him out of acting for more than 10 months. The following season hasn’t been any better, with him scoring just 7 goals and our frustration with him is natural. But for the maker, his stats might be just okay to avoid a reduction. Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but he might continue with the same rating.

Lucas Vazquez (80 OVR-> 83 OVR)

Lucas Vazquez is fondly called the GOAT by a lot of Madridistas on social media, and for a player with such a heavy tag, a rating of 80 was never going to be okay. For his fantastic season in 2020/21, Lucas deserves a massive upgrade to 83, like his mate, Nacho. The only confusion for the makers might be his position, as he has proved to be effective in both the RB and RW positions. But as long as there’s an improvement, we the fans of Lucas Vazquez are fine with any position.

Luka Jovic(80 OVR->79 OVR)

Luka Jovic’s rating decreased from 83 to 80 in FIFA 21, as he followed up a 25-goal season with just 2 goals. He did score 7 goals in the 2020/21 season for both club and country, but after all, that might not be enough to prevent a drop in the striker’s rating.

Vinicius Jr.(80 OVR->81 OVR)

For a Real Madrid fan’s level of expectations, 6 goals and 7 assists may not be enough to call it a good season for Vinicius. But for a 20-year-old, Vinicius’ progress is good and he does deserve a raise for all the big-game performances and other key aspects of his game. I want to predict as much as an 82 rating, but considering how his finishing still needs improvement, an increase of one unit might be enough.

Mariano Diaz (77 OVR->75 OVR)

1 goal in 680 minutes across all competitions. Well, that sums it up.

Rodrygo Goes (79 OVR->80 OVR)

Creativity wise, Rodrygo has been brilliant in the 2020/21 season, with him getting as many as 8 assists in all competitions, along with 2 goals. Given his limited playing time due to injuries, those numbers are great. The increment could’ve been better if he played more, but a rating of 80 for a 20-year-old looks great.

Overall judgement:

Given the minor improvements and reductions, we can expect another season with an overall attacking rating of 84. But if there is an addition like Kylian Mbappe, expect a great improvement in the overall rating.
