4. DAVID ALABA

David Alaba’s is Real Madrid’s first signing after three consecutive dormant transfer windows. The Austrian international was signed as a free agent after his contract with Bayern Munich ran its course and was officially presented as a player recently at the Santiago Bernabeu. Alaba has been handed the number four jersey and is expected to lead the backline in Sergio Ramos’ absence.

Alaba is undoubtedly one of the most versatile players in the world which is why he’s so highly rated. The former Bayern Munich defender has the fourth-highest transfer market value at the club- around 55 million euros.

The 29-year-old is on contract with Los Blancos until 2026 and his market valuation could increase over the next few seasons if Carlo Ancelotti is able to properly utilise and get the best out of the Austrian.

The expectations are sky-high for David Alaba who is expected to fill in a huge role in the defence in the absence of Sergio Ramos and possibly Raphael Varane’s as well. Alaba, who is primarily a left-back will be probably tasked with the duty of playing as a centre-back this season.

He’s been quite a good centre-back for Bayern Munich and Austria, however, competing in La Liga and for Real Madrid is certainly a whole new challenge and is another level of difficulty. Only time will tell how good Alaba turns out to be.
