RODRYGO GOES

Rodrygo had a fast start to life with Real Madrid. Although it was expected that the 20-year-old would spend his initial years with the Real Madrid Castilla side, he made the leap to the senior team in his first few months in the Spanish capital itself. He scored a hat-trick on his full debut in the Champions League, which led to a natural increase in expectations from him.

Last season, he was just one of several underperforming youngsters under Zinedine Zidane and hence, he scored just twice in all competitions. However, he has started the 2021/22 campaign on an auspicious note. after scoring a beautifully taken goal against Rangers which was assisted by yet another potential galactico in the making, Martin Odegaard.

He may spend a third consecutive season playing as a right-winger, particularly due to the large number of options that Carlo Ancelotti already has on the left flank, which is Rodrygo’s preferred position. Nonetheless, there will be expectations upon him to get in on the act and show that he has blossomed over the summer and can turn out to be a massive success at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Gareth Bale’s fitness issues and Marco Asensio’s erratic run of form are likely to play in Rodrygo’s favour, but Kylian Mbappe’s probable arrival could hinder his regularity.
