With Real Madrid and Manchester United having reached an agreement in principle for Raphael Varane’s signing, the Whites require defensive signings.

Heading into the upcoming season on the back of losing two of the best central defenders in recent years and then replacing them with the likes of Jesus Vallejo, Mario Gila and Victor Chust is simply not the right choice. As such, Los Merengues require a defensive rebuild as well because Sergio Ramos, another outgone player, and Varane, were nothing short of sensational lately.

In Varane, the 13-time European champions lost a player in his prime and a captain material for the future for just 50 million euros, which could turn out to be a bargain in a market that is inflated as it is in the present day. While Florentino Perez may not sign any defender this summer, the bottom line remains that it is not the right approach to take considering the present choices.

Even though the 50 million euros earned from Varane’s transfer will most likely be used to fund Kylian Mbappe’s rumoured move to the club next month, the World Cup winner’s departure will definitely cause an imbalance in the squad which will have to be covered sooner or later. Which are three central defenders the Whites can bring in, in order to replace their former superstar?
