LUKA JOVIC- STRIKER

With only two goals to his name and a loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt that was nothing to write home about, Luka Jovic has been nothing short of a disappointment since arriving from the Bundesliga two years ago. A breakthrough season in which he scored 27 times across all competitions was enough for Real Madrid to be convinced into spending 65 million euros on him.

Even though he was a signing that was requested for by Zinedine Zidane, the French manager eventually had to turn to Karim Benzema who was virtually a bottomless source of goals without any back-up. One cannot expect much from Mariano Diaz, but there is a lot of pressure on Jovic’s shoulders to deliver this season as it may well be his last chance before he is aggressively phased out.

Jovic is unlikely to play a starring role but what he can do at the very least is support Karim Benzema in the goal-scoring department. He is still young and lacks inexperience, so nobody will expect him to bring the qualities which Benzema brings to the table, but goals are the bread and butter of a striker’s game and have to be delivered. A 10-goal season could work in his favour.
