After months of speculation, Real Madrid have confirmed the permanent transfer of Raphael Varane to Manchester United. The 28-year-old was in the final year of his contract and his reluctance towards signing a new deal eventually led to his transfer.

Varane departs after 10-long trophy-laden seasons at the Spanish capital- winning every available club competition on multiple occasions. The Frenchman now heads over to England in seek of his new challenge in Manchester, and Real Madrid and its fans wish him the very best.

There’s no denying that Varane’s departure has set the club back, especially since we’ve lost both our first-choice centre-backs in the same window.

There’s a big void to fill in both these positions, David Alaba is the ideal one to take up the LCB position ( Sergio Ramos’) but who fills in Varane’s shoes? Let’s have a look.

EDER MILITAO- THE MOST OBVIOUS CHOICE

Eder Militao is certainly the most obvious choice. Kevin Parvizi, in his most recent article he wrote about how David Alaba and Militao could possibly form the ideal centre-back partnership next season. I clearly agree with Kevin as Militao has shown the ability to be the next top centre-back of Real Madrid, possibly even a Galactico in the future if he continues to improve with time.

The 23-year-old remained patient despite his limited game-time in his debut season, however, he seized his chances last season during the injury crisis and put on a great show to cement his at the club.

In my opinion, Militao would be the perfect heir to Varane’s throne. Like the Frenchman, the Brazilian is equally fast and has a sound tackle in his arsenal to win possession back.

He’s also much more comfortable on the ball and his ability to progress higher up or build up from the back is a huge bonus for Carlo Ancelotti. He’s good in the air and has a physical presence as well. All in all, he’s the ideal one.

Let’s have a look at the next possible player that could fill in Raphael Varane’s role at Real Madrid next season.
