NACHO- MAYBE NOT THE BEST OPTION

Nacho Fernandez- Real Madrid’s loyal servant- has extended his stay at the club until 2023 recently. His extension has been celebrated amongst the Madrid faithful after all his years of service.

The Spaniard stepped up last season along with Militao towards the business end of the campaign and formed a rock-solid partnership amongst some of the most difficult oppositions in the absence of Ramos and Varane.

While Nacho was certainly a fantastic deputy, it would be a risky proposition to consider making the 30-year-old a permanent or regular starter for an entire season. The best option would be to keep Nacho as a back-up as there’s no guarantee over his performances. He was poor against Rangers in a match that ended in a 2-1 defeat and he was even sent off before the first half.

He’s a great utility player to have in the squad, since he can play in multiple positions. It is unlikely that Ancelotti would make him a starter next season especially over Militao since he’s not that fast or comfortable on the ball as the Brazilian.

Finally, let’s have a look at the last option at replacing Raphael Varane. This player has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite some time but he’s edging closer to a move to England. Can Los Blancos get their hands on him? Let’s find out.
