Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is preparing for his return season in the dugout, and there is still uncertainty regarding the final make-up of his squad. Ancelotti evidently still wants Real to trim the roster, and Los Blancos do need to clear out a little more wage space and raise some more funds both for their Kylian Mbappe dream and to set up a more successful 2022 window (that could be a big year for Madridistas).

But there are still a good deal of players who are off-limits. Hopefully, “old guard” legends like Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Karim Benzema can remain for as long as they are playing at the highest level, while the likes of Fede Valverde, Thibaut Courtois, and Rodrygo Goes have quickly played themselves into the good graces of fans.

According to MARCA’s Jose Felix Diaz, Fede remains one of the young players who are unsellable, which is always good to hear, given the rumors of past interest from PSG and Bayern Munich. But he also reports that Vinicius Junior is considered unsellable, stating that this is specifically by the request of Carlo Ancelotti.

Vini has never scored more than three goals in his first three LaLiga seasons with Real Madrid, so some fans may be puzzled as to why a player with more marquee misses than goals is considered untouchable by the club.

Real Madrid should support players like Vinicius Junior

But it makes sense when you think of Vinicius as a high-upside investment who fits the personality the club wants. Real Madrid value young forwards who play with flair and energy, and they like young players who are humble and take on responsibility.

Vini is the kind of character Real would like to bank on, and he is the profile of an upbeat, hard-working player whom Ancelotti would like to mold. Ancelotti probably sees maximizing Vinicius as his most important job for the upcoming season in terms of the long-term impact fulfilling this task could have on Real Madrid, which is a club Don Carlo respects to the utmost degree.

Eden Hazard’s injuries mean that Vinicius has a real shot at starting on the left side of the attack, though many Madridistas have higher hopes for Rodrygo, who is “more unsellable” in the eyes of the fanbase.

That said, Ancelotti’s apparent faith in Vinicius is great to see, even if you personally disagree that Vinicius is unsellable – or, maybe more to the point, “unloanable”. We will see what the 2021-2022 season brings for Vini, but the Real Madrid attack could rest on how much progress the electrifying winger makes.
