Recently there has been a lot of speculation from the Spanish media over the future of Martin Odegaard at Real Madrid. Reports have claimed that the Norwegian has not settled down well at Madrid and is keen on returning to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, other Spanish reporters such as Marca’s Carlo Carpio have said that Martin Odegaard is not willing to put in a fight and secure a place in the starting eleven and prefers a move back to the Emirates Stadium in search of game time.

Nonetheless, Real Madrid being Real Madrid are not interested in keeping hold of players who do not want to be part of the club, even if it’s Martin Odegaard.

Having said that, ESPN claims that Arsenal would have to pay up to 50 million euros to sign Odegaard permanently this summer. Los Blancos are not interested in loaning him out for another season and the only option remains a permanent sale this summer, claims ABC Deportes.

Should Real Madrid sell Martin Odegaard to Arsenal for 50 million euros?

It’s no secret that Real Madrid are looking forward to raising funds through player departures this summer to sign Kylian Mbappe. While in my opinion, I would not want Martin Odegaard to be sold permanently.

However, if the Norwegian is not willing to fight for a place in the starting eleven and prefers to continue his career elsewhere then Madrid should not stop him. Irrespective of his talent or skill, there’s simply no point in holding onto a player who wants a move elsewhere.

If Real Madrid does sanction a sale of Odegaard, they would approximately raise 100 million euros that would most likely be used during the last few weeks of August to sign Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.

The club is completely looking into this situation from a financial perspective. Sending Martin Odegaard on loan to Arsenal this season could further depreciate his market value if the Gunners have another horror season. The best option from a financial point of view would be to cash in on the Norwegian now and use the funds for other transfer activities (Mbappe’s signing).
