When reports first surfaced earlier this summer that Cristiano Ronaldo could try to push for a return to Real Madrid, many Madridistas greeted the swirling rumors with hope and even joy. The fans have fond memories of Ronaldo hoisting trophy after trophy and shattering goal-scoring records, putting hat-tricks past seemingly hapless LaLiga defenses with the greatest of ease.

Since Ronaldo’s departure to Juventus, where he has continued to top the scoring charts in spite of a less ideal supporting cast, the Real Madrid well of goals has run dry. Beyond Karim Benzema, Los Blancos do not have a reliable scoring option, and that is why they are so keen on signing Kylian Mbappe and/or Erling Haaland. This sputtering attack is no longer Galactic.

Although Florentino Perez himself has denied any pursuit of Ronaldo, the Portuguese legend is apparently still keeping his eyes on a possible return to the Spanish capital.

According to Mirko Calemme of ASCristiano Ronaldo will make one more attempt to rejoin Real Madrid this summer if it becomes clear that PSG will not sell the Merengue club Kylian Mbappe, who is seen as something of a successor to Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo could push Real Madrid to be their Kylian Mbappe contingency

Mbappe has one year left on his contract and is the clear object of Real Madrid, who may have sold Raphael Varane in order to create financial wiggle room for the game-changing forward. But despite the mutual interest from Mbappe and Real, a deal is entirely uncertain due to PSG’s stubbornness and ambitions of winning an elusive Champions League trophy.

Per Calemme, Ronaldo was not discouraged by Perez’s dismissal of the rumors and is additionally attracted by the chance to work with the charismatic Carlo Ancelotti once more. Although Real Madrid are all-in on Mbappe and a superstar of the future, rather than spending 30 million euros in wages on a superstar over the age of 35, the point remains that CR7 seems to have ambitions of returning to the club most would say he should have never left – or, at least, should have never put him in a position to leave.

The Ronaldo rumors are still alive, particularly because of the complexities of an Mbappe signing. But with money tight and Mbappe such an important objective for the long-term success of the club, the Ronaldo rumors are, as of now, nothing more than a lingering whisper in the wind. Honestly, a move to PSG to replace Mbappe would be more sensible for all parties.
