Real Madrid prospect Takefusa Kubo did not have an eventful 2020-2021 season despite receiving a big loan opportunity with Villarreal and a subsequent winter loan to Getafe after that first transfer did not work out.

But Kubo has reemerged on the radar with a massive Olympics, having fulfilled his goal of making a big impact for the Japan national team on the big stage. Kubo showed his eye for goal and fast feet in the tournament, and he has been linked with clubs around LaLiga.

According to the latest report from David Alonso on Onda Cero’s El Transistor, Takefusa Kubo could end up at either Real Sociedad or Mallorca for the 2021-2022 LaLiga season. It all apparently comes down to these two clubs in spite of other interest from around the league.

A loan within Spain has always made the most sense for Kubo. He once had interest from clubs outside the country last summer, but Real Madrid ultimately opted for the Unai Emery pitch. It did not work out for the creative Kubo, however, the logic from Los Blancos has not changed. They want to see him develop his playing style to the league.

Real Madrid do not have enough non-EU slots to accommodate Kubo, as of right now, so a loan is important logistically, even if some Madridistas would rather Kubo get a crack at the right wing position over an option that underwhelmed in the last two seasons.

A Takefusa Kubo return to Mallorca would be less exciting than Real Sociedad

Kubo already spent the 2019-2020 season with Mallorca as an infrequent starter, and he made a big impact by the end of the year with that something special he provides on the ball. La Real showed interest last summer and are crowded with star man Portu on the right-hand side, but they are a very good club with a great coach and high ambitions. As Martin Odegaard can attest, their exciting brand of football suits a playmaker well.

Mallorca would be the less exciting option to fans of Real Madrid, but Los Blancos may, in the back of their minds, be concerned about the minutes Kubo would get at La Real. They do not want a repeat of the 2020-2021 season when Kubo was reduced to a bit player at Villarreal in LaLiga and was not given a chance to succeed on a floundering Getafe attack.

Madridistas will hope another option emerges to spice things up, but it seems like these are the two destinations. We shall see what Imanol Alguacil and La Real, in particular, have pitched to the Olympic standout.
