For Real Madrid to succeed in the upcoming season, the team’s forwards have to take up the initiative of scoring more goals than they recently have done.

Karim Benzema has been under tremendous pressure to deliver for three years now and he has done so without faltering in all honestly ever since Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus three years ago. While he has scored over 30 goals in all competitions for three successive seasons now, the Frenchman being the club’s leading scorer lately by a long way is a rather worrying sign.

To put things into perspective, the top scorer behind Benzema in 2019/20 for Sergio Ramos- who scored a majority of his goals through penalties, and in 2020/21, it was Casemiro. This statistic puts a massive question mark on the work done by other attackers like Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes to name a few, let alone the likes of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic, who have barely played since arriving at the club for multimillion euro transfer two summers back.

In the 2021/22 season, Los Blancos are supposedly obliged to sign a galactic marksman by the fans but in the event they don’t do so, other players have to take the onus and score more goals. Which are the three players who must step up and allow Benzema to ease off a little bit?
