Real Madrid: 3 options for depth signings in midfield after Toni Kroos injury
1. Ajax CM Ryan Gravenberch
On number one, is Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch. The admiration I have for this young man only grows in the right direction. Gravenberch has been in and out of the discussion, he also featured earlier in our list of midfielders to monitor on the transfer market. Especially, he can be targeted as a possible replacement for the aging Luka Modric.
Ryan has all the attributes that can make him one of the best midfielders in the world. He is precise with his passing, is a good dribbler of the ball, and had a decent defensive record in Eredivisie this past season. If given the right attention, he could be the next big thing. For a young flourishing player what could be better than playing with legends like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric on the same side?
His performances in the recently concluded European Championships with the Netherlands though limited were on the upward curve and he maintained the benchmark he set for himself with his brilliance at the club levels, both in domestic and continental competitions. His market value, per Transfermarkt, went up by 5 million euros (from 28 to 35 million) and that is only indicative of his promise at just 19 years of age.
There was never any doubt in my mind as to who would be leading this list. Ryan Gravenberch is just the investment to make at the moment for Real Madrid. He is young and impressive, he would be open to a backup role and most importantly he would be the ideal Modric replacement with several similarities in the playing style especially in holding and creative abilities.
