It’s not easy being an optimistic Real Madrid fan at the moment, especially after the club parted ways with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the same transfer window.

So far, the club has welcomed only one signing in David Alaba and is not expected to make any further recruitments unless it’s Kylian Mbappe.

Carlo Ancelotti also lost his first friendly game of the season which was against Rangers that ended in a 2-1 defeat.

While it can be tough to be optimistic in such uncertain times, I have three possible positives that Madridistas should look forward to ahead of the 2021-22 season.

A NEW STYLE OF PLAY AWAITS REAL MADRID

Carlo Ancelotti is undoubtedly one of the most tactically astute managers in the world. He’s achieved great feats at every club he’s managed and a soaring success at Real Madrid in his first tenure.

In his debut season, Ancelotti brought home the prestigious European Cup, thus ending a 12-year long wait. He also won the Copa del Rey in a great fashion against Barcelona after Gareth Bale scored one of his most iconic goals in his career to seal the win in the Cup final.

The former Everton manager is known for his counter-attacking style of play which was quite evident during the 2013/14 season. Ancelotti wants to play high-intensity football with a lot of vertical play.

With all due respect to Zinedine Zidane, during his second tenure at the club, Real Madrid played like an open book. We struggled against most opponents who played a low-back as Zidane’s tactical set-up was mostly based on ball rotation from the wings.

However, Carlo Ancelotti wants to implement a completely different system and he has a great set of players to do so as well. The Italian wants more input from the wingers in terms of goals and is keen on building a game plan that could see the likes of Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr get on the scoresheet frequently.
