With Lionel Messi having signed for Paris Saint-Germain following his departure from Barcelona, Real Madrid are set to encounter a winning situation.

In more than one way, Messi had been a hindrance to Real Madrid for the better part of two decades. Not only did the Argentina international go on to score the most number of goals in El Clasico history and antagonize the Whites on several occasions, but he also benefitted Barca and thereby cause Real Madrid a disadvantage in matters off the field as well.

One of the biggest reasons why Barcelona have a fanbase that is as big as it is today is because of the 33-year-old’s presence in the Catalans’ squad. In addition to that, he also drove a lot of revenue into the other big city of Spain which has certainly impacted Real Madrid, at least in terms of which TV rights, as well as sponsorship dealings, are decided.

With Los Blancos having bid farewell to Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos, and Raphael Varane over the years and Barcelona doing the same to Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi and Xavi- a new era is upon La Liga entirely, but particularly on Barcelona and Real Madrid- who are set to witness a massive shift in paradigm over what promises to be a major transitional phase.
