Real Madrid attacking midfielder Martin Odegaard was supposed to be the next great playmaker at the Santiago Bernabeu. Madridistas watched him develop on loan over the years, growing from a promising youngster in the Eredivisie to a bonafide star at Real Sociedad a couple of seasons ago in LaLiga. But after getting his call to the first team and not playing, Odegaard joined Arsenal on loan in the winter 2021 transfer window and seems set to leave Madrid for good.

Throughout the summer, we have heard conflicting report after conflicting report regarding the status of the talented Norwegian. We heard about Carlo Ancelotti’s big plans and Odegaard’s desire to fulfill his supposed destiny as a Real player. But then we heard about unrest, uncertainty, doubt, and a desire to be a key starter in every game. A desire that would not be fulfilled at Real Madrid with Toni Kroos, Casemiro, Fede Valverde, and, of course, Luka Modric all established in midfield.

Now, it seems as if Odegaard has made his decision and will get his wish. MadridistaReal, which has been 100 percent on top of this story over the past month, reports that Martin Odegaard will leave Real Madrid. It has been decided. More specifically, HE has decided his future and communicated his desire to the club. And as is customary, Los Blancos will not stand in the way of a player who no longer wants to compete for a spot.

Fabrizio Romano has chimed in, too, stating that Arsenal will make their move for the 22-year-old, as he has been their obvious No. 1 target for the creative role in midfield. Once Real Madrid tell Arsenal they can proceed, the Premier League side will make their bid.

Martin Odegaard could leave Real Madrid for Arsenal at a very reasonable price

How much could Real get for Odegaard? They will need to ask a reasonable fee in order to facilitate the sale, so Goal.com’s Mario Cortegana pinpoints the price between 40 and 50 million euros. Like Raphael Varane, Odegaard would be an example of a Premier League side taking advantage of a talented Real Madrid player whom the club cannot keep, signing them at a very reasonable price.

But what can Real do if Odegaard does not want to play? I know Madridistas have turned on him and are using the word “mentality” as a buzzword. As disappointing as it is to see that Odegaard does not want to stay and fight for a spot he is capable of earning with time, different players value different things. Whereas some are willing to stay for the long haul and always believe they can make it at the club, other players prefer to be a focal point somewhere else. Odegaard sees Arsenal as that opportunity, despite the club’s struggles and the doubts around Mikel Arteta.

The beat will go on for Real, while Arsenal look poised to land a talented player who will build on a decent half-season loan in North London. Los Blancos must recoup their midfield depth with the money they get from Odegaard, because with Toni Kroos and Dani Ceballos injured, they are in some trouble there.
