Real Madrid start with the new season very soon. This Saturday, they open the books for the 2021/22 season with a game at Alaves. It’ll be interesting to see who makes the nod and who doesn’t, especially with Toni Kroos out with injury and Ferland Mendy still not 100% fit.

Before they do that though, Real Madrid got a few things in order. There were a few players that needed their kit numbers changed, and according to La Liga’s official site, they’ve made some changes.

Real Madrid have handed out new kit numbers to Gareth Bale, Luka Jovic and Rodrygo

According to the site, Gareth Bale — who had a great first half against Milan — would now be wearing 18 on his back. It is a number that was worn by Luka Jovic before he left Real Madrid on loan to Eunthrait Frankfurt last season. It’ll be weird to see Bale without the number 11 on his back, but I guess we’d have to get used to it now. Asensio has it, and it doesn’t seem like he’s willing to give it up.

The Serbian, on the other hand, has chosen a different kit number this time around. Jovic will be going with the number 16 this time around.

Rodrygo — a player that was supposed to wear number 16 according to the same site —- has now apparently switched to the number 21.

However, there’s still no sign of a few players from the squad on the list. Martin Odegaard, Jesus Vallejo and Dani Ceballos are still not on the squad list, which is weird because the season is supposed to start on Saturday, and if they’re not officially on the team, they won’t be able to play.

There are many reports that have been talking about them not being registered with the club. While I understand why people may think that, it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. Of course, it doesn’t mean that their future is certain, either.

Maybe, it’s just not fully updated, because if you look at the site, Raphael Varane is still listed as a Real Madrid player. Obviously, he isn’t anymore, his move to Manchester United was finalised weeks ago, but he’s still wearing the number 5.

It remains to be seen what the actual hold up is, and until then, we can only wait for the official news from the club.
