Why Real Madrid should be cautious about buying Kylian Mbappe this summer

Kylian Mbappe transfer rumors have further boiled up with Lionel Messi joining Paris Saint-Germain. There have been various reports with some stating that Mbappe is close to joining Real Madrid more than ever, while the others state that PSG is preferring to keep Mbappe in the club this season and let him leave next year for free.

Many different reports are coming out and I won’t mention all of them. But the real question is: Should Real Madrid really go all out for Kylian Mbappe?

Everyone would be having different opinions on this, and so do I. We heard the price tag if Mbappe is to be sold is €200m or €180m. But the least amount for which PSG might let Mbappe leave would be €120m. But with the recent reports coming in, Real Madrid is planning a massive bid of €150m.

Why do Real Madrid need Kylian Mbappe?

Gareth Bale hasn’t been the same player we once fell in love with. Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are still too young to be handed over the responsibility of the attack from the wings (even though they have been doing it for the majority of the last two years).

Both Vinicius and Asensio have been trying their best to deliver but failing almost every time. Eden Hazard always impresses us whenever he comes on the pitch, but it’s sad that he faces another injury setback after just 2 or 3 matches. In the match against Alaves, we saw the ‘Dream Trio’ of Hazard, Benzema, and Bale linking very well. But will this continue for the whole season? No. Both Hazard and Bale are injury-prone players and we know that.

On the other hand, Kylian Mbappe is all-in-one. He is a pacy, prolific, and skillful goal scorer and since he is not injury-prone, he is pretty much everything Real Madrid wants at the moment. So, Mbappe is very crucial for Real Madrid.

Signing Mbappe can guarantee Real Madrid winning the LaLiga. But will it also guarantee Real the UCL? No. PSG will still have a much higher chance with the squad they’ve got. So, spending €150m just for a player who can guarantee LaLiga when Real already has a pretty good chance of winning the league doesn’t seem like a promising deal, at least to me and especially if they can sign him next year for free.

So, what is a more sensible approach for Real Madrid?

Signing Kylian Mbappe for €150m this year, or free next year? In my opinion, it would be better if Real sign him next year for free and let Carlo Ancelotti do what he does the best- take out the best of the youngsters like Luka Jovic, Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius Junior, Federico Valverde, and Eder Militao.

Plus, Real Madrid shouldn’t make the same mistake as they made with Chelsea for Eden Hazard. Signing Hazard for a €100m when he not only called playing for Real Madrid as his “Dream” but also hadn’t started contract renewal talks with Chelsea with one year left on his contract was a bad call.

Further, the money that Real Madrid will save by not signing him would help them sign Haaland as well as a center-back next season. So, I don’t think there’s much of a benefit of spending €150m on Mbappe for just one season.
