Paris Saint-Germain have put together a super team over the summer transfer window. The French side have pulled off a remarkable summer which in my opinion is far better than the 2009/10 transfer window of Real Madrid when the club signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Karim Benzema, and Xabi Alonso.

While PSG have undoubtedly signed some of the biggest names in football, Les Parisiens continue to sweat over Kylian Mbappe‘s future amid interest from Real Madrid. The 22-year-old already seems to have made up his mind about playing in white and has not changed his decision despite the likes of Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi joining the team.

Paris Saint-Germain’s president was asked about Mbappe’s future recently during Messi’s presentation to which he replied,

"“I think we have the most competitive team. Now there is no choice for Kylian but to stay here in Paris. I think everybody knows the future of Kylian, people from Paris and the players. He wanted a competitive team and I think we have got the most competitive in the world. So there is no excuse for him now. He can’t do anything else but stay.”"

PSG have a backup plan if Mbappe leaves for Real Madrid next year

Despite the 22-year-old’s contract running out next summer, Nasser Al-Khelaifi is confident that Kylian Mbappe will renew terms after putting together one of the world’s best teams. However, if Mbappe does not renew and leaves as a free agent in the following season, PSG have a backup plan up their sleeve.

According to AS, Paris Saint-Germain are ready to pounce on Juventus‘ Cristiano Ronaldo next season. The 36-year-old Portuguese international is in the final year of his contract and will be a free agent next year along with Mbappe. If Kylian completes his move to Real Madrid next year, PSG will replace him with Ronaldo.

So what exactly does PSG’s interest in Ronaldo mean for Kylian Mbappe? Well, for starters if you are not aware Kylian Mbappe has idolised the 36-year-old during his early career days. The opportunity to play together would be something Mbappe would look forward to but it does not seem feasible at the moment. Mainly because PSG’s sole motive to sign Ronaldo is to replace him for Mbappe not to play both of them together.

It’s well known that the 22-year-old wants a move to the Spanish capital, so the question arises can Ronaldo and Mbappe play together at Real Madrid? Well in my opinion, I do not see it happening because I personally believe that under no circumstance would Real re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo due to his age and wages.

Florentino Perez is keen on building a team for the future, a sustainable long-term project. Ronaldo would turn 37 next year and his signing would be completely against the current policy at the club.

Well, since PSG could sign Cristiano Ronaldo for free next season, the French giants might consider holding onto Kylian Mbappe until 2022. Although Real Madrid want Mbappe this summer, they might have to wait another year.

That way PSG can directly replace their star player without spending any money which would work in their favour. It could possibly form a transfer domino- Mbappe to Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo to Paris Saint-Germain.

If that is the case, then the possibility of watching Ronaldo and Mbappe together at the Spanish capital will not be possible. However, Ronaldo would unite with his greatest rival Lionel Messi and their partnership is what many football fans dream of.
