Real Madrid would need to negotiate a reasonable fee with Juventus
Now the final thing that would need to happen is another financial detail, but it may be more difficult to negotiate, only because Cristiano Ronaldo’s own wishes would not enter the picture here. Real Madrid would need Juventus to be willing to accept a modest fee for Ronaldo.
Real should have some money in their pockets, as Martin Odegaard seems likely to move to the Premier League, just as Raphael Varane did earlier this summer. If Real don’t sign Kylian Mbappe, they have money to spend on Ronaldo.
But there is principle here. Do Real truly want to spend a lot of money on a 36-year-old with a one-year contract, no re-sale value, and high wages? It would not make sense to, especially during a pandemic and with Real knowing they need to save for more important long-term pieces like Mbappe or even Erling Haaland.
Juve may be willing to take less than 30 million euros. The lower the better here. Because Florentino Perez may still turn his nose upwards if Juve insist on 30 million. Since Juve are not really in on anyone besides Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli, their need to sell is not quite as pressing as we may have thought. So Juve’s own transfer stance is an X-Factor that should not be overlooked.
That said, Ronaldo has done well by Juve, and the team is struggling so much that this is clearly not what he signed up for. So if he makes it clear to Juve that he wants out, I doubt the Bianconeri would stance in his way. Ronaldo is very powerful, and, of course, so is his agent Jorge Mendes, whom Juve need to maintain a good relationship with.
