Will Miguel Gutierrez succeed as a LB for Real Madrid?

Near the end of the last season, we saw a couple of Castilla players make their debut for Real Madrid’s first team – one of those players was Miguel Gutierrez. Many people immediately fell in love with the way he played and I can say that I’m definitely obsessed with his qualities as a footballer. He was spectacular with the Castilla and we saw that when he played for the first team.

So, will Miguel Gutierrez succeed as a left-back for Real Madrid? It is certainly a very important question. Real Madrid already has three left backs – Marcelo Viera, Ferland Mendy, and David Alaba (who plays as a center-back too). This means that Miguel will have to do a lot of hard work to earn a place in the team. But isn’t he doing it already?

Miguel deserves a chance to prove his worth at Real Madrid, and it makes sense tactically too

Miguel has been putting some extra effort to cement his place in the first team. His efforts are beneficial to Real Madrid as well. Real Madrid has only 4 center-backs – Eder Militao, David Alaba, Nacho Fernandez and Jesus Vallejo. The quality in central defense has certainly taken a hit. But, with Miguel as a first-choice left-back, Ancelotti can work on his idea of playing Mendy as a center-back.

In one of my previous articles, I wrote about why Miguel Gutierrez deserves to be promoted to the first team. Some people argued that he shouldn’t be promoted as he might just have been a One-season wonder. Yes, he could have been, but he isn’t.

I mean, if you just look at him play, you’d know he’s the real deal. His game is well beyond his age. He knows what to do in the offense and can hold his own while defending. I just know Miguel will definitely succeed at this position, and I will say that again and again.

He is similar to how Marcelo was a few years ago – he has got pace, a winning attitude, and his offensive attributes are a threat to the opposition. His outside-the-boot pass to Luka Modric was enough to tell us about the quality the Spaniard possesses. He is also pretty sharp defensively!

After the game against Alaves, we saw how Ancelotti played Alaba at the left-back position. Alaba was great at the given position. But, after the game, Ancelotti talked about how easily Alaba can switch positions meaning that we might see Alaba play as a CB in the next game. With both Marcelo and Mendy being injured, Miguel could be seen starting against Levante.

It would be very interesting to see how Ancelotti fits the Real Madrid Academy product in his squad. In my opinion, he’s the rightful heir to Marcelo and I’m very excited to see him play regularly.

So, let’s just hope we see him play his best in the next game, should he get picked.
