While Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have recently taken all the spotlight amidst their transfer speculation. Erling Haaland seems to have gone under the radar in the transfer market and the rumour mill. At the start of the year, there was a lot of transfer speculation about Haaland and his future after his agent and father met Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester City.

Since then, rumours regarding the 21-year-old have simmered down. While everything seems calm, Real Madrid have their eyes set on signing the Norwegian next year when his release clause worth 75 million euros would be activated.

According to Marca’s Jose Felix Diaz, Los Blancos or any other interested suitor could eventually end up paying more than the previously assumed 75 million euro release clause. It has been reported that Erling Haaland’s release clause could go up to 90 million euros next year which is still a bargain in today’s current market given the potential Haaland has.

What does Haaland’s new release clause mean for Real Madrid?

I strongly believe that Real Madrid are unbothered by the possible change in Erling Haaland’s release clause. The club can easily afford to pay 90 million euros next year after sanctioning the sale of Raphael Varane and Martin Odegaard which has amounted to 75 million euros.

Los Blancos will also part ways with Gareth Bale, Isco and Marcelo next season which will further free up the wage payroll which will help in accommodating Erling Haaland’s wage demands. You can also read one of my previous articles about why Haaland would definitely sign for Madrid next year.

On a side note, Real Madrid could possibly end up signing both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland next year in the summer. The former’s transfer now looks unlikely with the deadline day nearing closer. Marca claims that Madrid believes it is impossible to sign Mbappe and would have to wait until next year to get the 22-year-old on board for free.

It would be a dream come true for every Madridista to see Haaland and Mbappe being presented together at the Santiago Bernabeu. One can only hope that Florentino Perez can pull off this masterpiece in 2022.
