Real Madrid: Ranking Los Blancos’ top 5 performers from August
2. Vinicius Junior
On number two we have the club’s highest scorer and to everyone’s amusement, it is Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian’s weary days in front of the goal finally seem to be coming to an end under the new boss. Don Carlo’s impact on Vinicius was always an important issue in the discussion even before the season began and from what we have seen in the first three games, the tactics seem to be working.
Vini hasn’t looked under-confident while taking on shots at all. In fact, he has been quite efficient. He scored his first of the season in the very first game within injury time when a David Alaba cross fell perfectly for him to head it home. In the very next match, he was Real Madrid’s hero with a brace. A brace of equalizing goals nonetheless.
While his first goal of the season was a scrappy finish, Vinicius’s brace against Levante cleared all doubts that he is working and improving his finishing. His first of the game was a cool and calm finish off a Casemiro through ball slotted perfectly into the corner along the ground. His second was a much more masterful piece of flicked finishing, courtesy of a Karim Benzema assist.
After two great off-the-bench performances, Vinicius was finally inducted into the starting line-up in the game against Betis. Though he didn’t score, he created all sorts of problems for the Betis defense winning a jaw-dropping seven dribbles and winning three freekicks. Vini seems to be on a roll and Madridistas like his confidence more than ever.
