With wins over Deportivo Alaves and Real Betis as well as a draw against Levante, Real Madrid have started their first month under Carlo Ancelotti as an undefeated side. While they will rue the defensive errors against the Frogs that prevented them from starting the 2021-2022 LaLiga campaign with a true winning streak, the fact of the matter is that Real are in position to compete for the league title this season.

Vinicius Junior had an outstanding month as the official Real Madrid Player of the Month, but how did everyone else do?

Here are the full player ratings from the first month of the 2021-2022 season.

GK Thibaut Courtois

Another solid month in between the sticks from Thibaut Courtois, who was at his best in the most recent win over Real Betis. The Belgian superstar made a heroic save in the dying minutes of the match to preserve the win and his first clean sheet of the season. Courtois comes up clutch often.

Rating: 6.5

LB David Alaba

David Alaba started at center back against Real Betis with Nacho Fernandez injured, but he spent the other two matches at left back. While Alaba is more familiar on the left side, he had been Bayern Munich‘s starting center back in the last two seasons. As a whole, he acquitted himself well at both positions, playing a part of the clean sheet at the Benito Villamarin while assisting in the opener. Alaba adds a whole lot to this team with his passing, and Madridistas should look forward to him reaching elite levels once he clicks fully with his teammates.

Rating: 6.5

CB Eder Militao

Eder Militao had an off night against Deportivo Alaves, making a crucial mistake that led to Thibaut Courtois causing a penalty that ruined the clean sheet. But he more than made up for it with some solid defending against both Levante (despite the team allowing three goals) and Real Betis. Militao is Real’s most talented defensive player, and it shouldn’t be long before he reaches the peak he hit in the second half of the 2020-2021 season.

Rating: 6.5

CB Nacho Fernandez

The string of above-average ratings continues with another “6.5” in defense, but this one is not like the others. Due to an overload injury, Nacho has only started two matches for Real Madrid, and both starts could not have gone any differently. While he was one of the best players on the pitch in the opener against Alaves with some beautiful tackles, he looked completely out of sorts against Levante one week later. Perhaps that was the injury talking. After how well he played last season, Madridistas are expecting him to perform closer to what he showed against Alaves.

Rating: 6.5

RB Lucas Vazquez

Lucas Vazquez was a heroic figure for Real Madrid in 2020-2021, but the makeshift fullback did not have a good start to August. He was a little sloppy in the opener and then really dropped a shocker against Levante. With Dani Carvajal back in full force, Vazquez is set to settle into a backup role once more. But his effort means that even when he is off, he is not a huge liability either.

Rating: 5.0

RB Dani Carvajal

A fantastic return. Dani Carvajal is so important to Real Madrid, as we saw against Levante when he made a game-changing appearance off the bench. A great two-way player, Carvajal was one of the standouts in the win over Betis, netting the winning goal for Los Blancos.
