Real Madrid will do anything to get their man

Real Madrid reportedly sent PSG an eye-watering 220 million euro offer shortly before the transfer window closed, and PSG gave it a “pocket veto” by not even responding to the deal as the window expired.

But even though Los Blancos did not get the Emir to budge, they showed Kylian Mbappe that he is wanted at any price and above anything else. That must mean a whole lot to Mbappe, especially when PSG were busy making statements taking shots at him in the media or undermining his ability to make decisions about his own future. And if the fans at the Parc des Princes treat him poorly, he will increasingly look to Madrid as a place that values him more.

That message will carry over to players like Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba, and Jules Kounde next summer. And it is a message that Eduardo Camavinga already received, as he jumped at the opportunity to move to Real Madrid above interest from other clubs, such as PSG.

By signing Camavinga and going after Mbappe until the very last minute with an offer of a magnitude very few people expected, Real Madrid sent the opposite message to other footballers as compared to PSG. Whereas PSG have stated they are above everyone else, Real Madrid have reminded young stars around the world that they will make you feel like this is the destination to be if you are a top, top player.
