Real Madrid: 3 keys to victory against Valencia on LaLiga’s Matchday 5
Real Madrid achieved a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Inter Milan away at San Siro in mid-week. Though it was a late winner in the 89th minute there were a lot of positives to note about Real Madrid’s play. Especially, the youngsters. Carlo Ancelotti would be looking to field another strong starting XI against Valencia at the Mestalla as Los Blancos look to continue their winning run.
Valencia, on the other hand, has been absolute high-flyers in the league so far. They sit second on the table, tied with Real Madrid for both points and goal difference. Los Blancos have a better head-to-head record that is still keeping them atop. Valencia, are going to be tricky opponents. More so, after looking at their current run of form. As such, here are the keys to victory that can help Real Madrid see off a tough challenge and establish a point gap in the league.
1. Real Madrid must put on an extra clutch in midfield
Valencia’s midfield, to say the least, has been on fire so far. Their main talisman in the middle of the park, Carlos Soler is leading as Valencia’s highest goal-contributor so far with three goals and two assists from four matches. His partner in crime, Daniel Wass too, has been off to a flying start this season. He has a goal and an assist under his belt, per WhoScored.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, is without the services of Toni Kroos in midfield. And, Luka Modric is visibly looking exhausted after the International break and two back-to-back matches in the matter of three days in between the games. The 36-year-old wasn’t as effective as he usually is in the match against Inter Milan. He was still decent, when Lukita isn’t at his best, he is still decent enough to see a job through.
Real Madrid will have half a week to help its players rejuvenate and Don Carlo gave the squad an off-day after the Inter-clash which should work in the best interest of the players. All signs point towards the 36-year-old starting against Valencia. However, a quick substitution before the third quarter of the match can be predicted.
The youngsters have been particularly impressive. Camavinga has had two great off the bench appearances that include a goal on his debut and an impressive assist against Inter. This midfield battle would be head-to-head and Real Madrid must put in an extra shift to get better of Valencia and gain control of the game.
